LFF X LA REDOUTE

The La Redoute brand is a bit of an institution in my household; Mama Green introduced me to the catalogue as a little girl and I believe that's where my love affair with French style began. It's that effortless sexy-cool, rock and roll, dishevelled-yet-put-together look the Vogue FR editors channel that the fashion world wants a little piece of. To celebrate French style and the statement items that every woman should own, La Redoute surveyed 300 french women to find out the five essential investment pieces that make up their capsule wardrobe. Some of the results surprised me (no Breton tee quelle horreur!), continue reading after the jump to discover the 5 pieces and see how I styled them for a week in my wardrobe:

LBD: This fabulous Coralie Marabelle dress has the Carven look without the designer price tag. Drawing inspiration from the J.Crew styling mantra 'wear something ordinary with something fabulous' I styled my LBD with an ASOS cropped denim jacket with distressed hems. This is kind of outfit I'd wear for date night - grown-up and smart but effortless at the same time.

FITTED SHIRT: When I think of the Vogue FR editors, I think of great shirts - the style elite are often seen heading to the PFW is a silky button-front Equipment number. Natural fabrics are key here - I only wear cotton and silk shirts, polyester just isn't chic I'm afraid! This Laura Clements number is 100% silk and exquisite quality. I wear shirts to the office most days, so this number will be in high rotation in my workwear wardrobe.

BLACK PUMPS: Being 5'11, flats are my shoe of choice. I don't love my calves, however, so a pointed flat is a great, flattering option because the shape elongates the leg. Beautifully crafted in leather with a sturdy sole, I paired my Mademoiselle R black leather pumps with my Coralie Marabelle LBD for date night.

BLACK JACKET: In my opinion, if you're going to invest in a black jacket: make it a leather one. One of those wear-forever wardrobe staples, a real leather jacket will improve in appearance the more you wear it. At the grand old age of 27.5, this is my first real leather biker. And it's perfect. Soft sheep's leather with classic biker detailing, and half price in the sale, too… I have styled my jacket with denim and stripes for an easy weekend look, come winter I'll be layering mine over knitwear too.

SKINNY JEANS: Skinny jeans may be overshadowed by loose-fit boyfriend jeans and 70s flares at present, but as french women know,  Bridget Bardot and Audrey Hepburn's go-to denims will endure fashion's fads. I like to wear mine subtly cropped, with some bare ankle on display - this length looks great with heels for post-work drinks.

  2. Great pick! I love the shirt worn with dungarees. La Redoute is also an institution at home and it is cool to be able to buy clothes from them here in the UK.
